Teglholmen Church

A contemporary church must be both accessible and meaningful, responding to changing social needs while preserving its role as a place for reflection, spirituality, and community. Especially in a busy urban setting, it should balance the everyday and the sacred, the contemporary and the timeless.

Our proposal for Teglholmen Church is built around these contrasts. A solid central volume contains the church’s main functions, while a lightweight steel structure surrounds it, creating ramps, stairways, gathering spaces, and a vertical garden. This open and green framework invites visitors upward to the sanctuary and rooftop, making the church an accessible and generous presence in the city, and a symbol of both ecological awareness and enduring spiritual values.
