Stortinget Metro Station
MDH is currently working on upgrading Stortinget metro station. The work consists of a range of measures to improve the user experience of the station and restore elements from the original station design. The project aims to make navigation within the station easier, through consistent use of materials and colours, good lighting and signage. During the planning phase, it has been important to cultivate the station's distinct character from entrance to platform. The station shall meet contemporary user requirements while retaining its original identity.
Stortinget station is the metro's fourth largest, with approximately 35,000 passengers daily. The station opened in 1977 as a temporary terminus, but reopened in 1987 following extensive reconstruction that included sealing water ingress and establishing a turning loop for trains from the east. The original, colourful wall elements from 1977, designed by architect Håkon Mjelva, have been preserved and today constitute an iconic feature of the station.
